The TechniqueThe whole procedure is carried out under a local anesthetic, which once administered enables our very experienced Hair Transplant Surgeon to carry out the microsurgery in a completely painless way. A narrow strip of hair bearing scalp is removed from the donor area (back or sides of the head) and with very latest microscopic technology is divided into the various size follicular units with the use of the Binocular Stereoscopic Dissecting Microscope. This microscope gives the ultimate in follicular dissection eliminating almost completely the danger of damage to the individual hairs. Up to now, one expected that even in the most skillful hands 5% or so of the harvested hairs could be lost or damaged resulting in decreased density. One can now look forward to close on 100% survival rate. The small area where the hair was taken from is simply closed with dissolving sutures and becomes hidden under the surrounding hair. This heals into a very fine line, which might only seen in the unlikely event that you shaved your head. The surgeon with his highly experienced team of nurses can now transplant these hair-bearing grafts into areas of hair loss. With special instruments hundreds of tiny slits are made into recipient area and one by one the individual follicular units are carefully placed following the direction of the natural hair growth. Single hairs can be inserted into the hairline giving a natural appearance hitherto thought impossible. Once positioned each new hair enters a natural resting phase lasting approximately 12-16 weeks. After this a new growth cycle begins and the hair grows at the normal rate of about half and inch per month. This means that any change in appearance is both gradual and natural. Six to eight months later you will notice a distinct improvement in density. This hair will continue to grow for the rest of your life. (No bandages or dressings are required and after a period of rest a final check is made on the grafts and you can leave in the knowledge that you have done something positive about your hair loss). The consultation and assessment with the surgeon are free. The Hair Transplant Surgery is carried out in one of the newest, best equipped surgical centres in Europe. It has been designed from first to last with patient welfare and comfort as an absolute priority. It has two theatres which have been equipped to the highest standard inspiring and feeling of spaciousness freedom and modernity. Once an area has been transplanted and the hair covers the area of hair loss then some men and women also go along the prescribed drug route taking either Minoxidil, Propecia or sometimes both in order to prevent further hair loss and thus avoid later transplant sessions. Our surgeon has over 20 years experience in the Hair Transplant field being a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and past President of both the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons and the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons. He is also a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons and was one of the first surgeons outside the USA to be examined by and appointed a certified member of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. All our prospective transplant clients will have the opportunity to meet the surgeon for an assessment and then they can make a sensible decision on whether a hair transplant is for them.
